What is the American Center Resource Center at Deaconess Medical Center?

The American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center at Deaconess Medical Center is a designated space in Deaconess Medical Center Health & Education Center where trained American Cancer Society volunteers provide materials, information on community resources, and immediate access to Cancer Information Specialists at 1-800-ACS-2345 or at www.cancer.org
   
Goals and Benefits of the Cancer Resource Center at Deaconess Medical Center
   
 
  • To help cancer survivors learn to self-navigate and advocate for themselves by arming them with information and resources
  • To provide seamless continuum of care, making the health care system and the American Cancer Society a “one-stop source” for information and assistance regarding cancer.  In turn, reaching a greater number of newly diagnosed cancer patients.
  • To provide enhanced patient access to specialized resources for undeserved populations.
  • To improve quality of care.
Volunteer Requirements
   
 

Interested adults (18 and older) are considered based on their application, pre-screening policies, health screenings, references and personal interview by Deaconess Medical Center volunteer services and American Cancer Society Resource Center volunteer coordinator.

All volunteers must attend an orientation session conducted by Deaconess Medical Center Volunteer Services and six to eight hours of initial Resource Center Training conducted by the resource center volunteer coordinator prior to beginning their volunteer service.
 

Volunteers are needed to assist patients at the Cancer Resource Center
